Shihan JJ Burnel is a highly respected martial artist with over 40 years of experience in various disciplines.
His journey began at 19 with Taekwondo, before transitioning to Kyokushinkai at 21 under Sensei Brian Crowley. In 1978, he traveled to Tokyo to train at the renowned Kyokushinkaikan in Ikebukuro, deepening his knowledge and skills.
Since 1991, Shihan Burnel has served as the UK Branch Chief of Shidokan, dedicating himself to teaching, training, and promoting the art. He has competed, taught, and demonstrated Shidokan worldwide, including in Japan.
Recognised for his dedication and expertise, he was awarded his 6th Dan in Japan in 2005 and received the prestigious title of Renshi in 2012. His continued commitment to the art was further honored in 2014 when he was promoted to 7th Dan (Nanadan).
Shihan Burnel continues to inspire students and martial artists through his teaching and leadership in Shidokan GB.
